Comparison of guiding types used in mould making

        Application area, mould making

Here you will find the areas of application and characteristics of the different guiding elements used in mould making.

        Ejector set guiding

        Support pillar with guiding function

        Comparison of guiding types

        Sliding guide made of steel

        Characteristics
        • Cleanroom compatible when combined with DLC coated guide pillars
        • Inexpensive
        • Consistent lubrication required

        Lubrication with VGS 180

        Areas of application
        • Suitable for high shear forces

        Sliding guide made of brass

        Characteristics
        • Can be used at up to 200°C
        • For medium shear forces

        Lubrication with VGS 180

        Areas of application
        • The most commonly used guide bush for ejector set guiding

Self-lubricating sliding guide – the strong alternative

        Characteristics
        • Friction causes oil to rise to the sliding surface. Due to capillary action the oil then retreats back into the sinter layer (when the tool is idle).
        • The ideal diffusion zone between the sinter layer and the steel sheath ensures inseparable molecular bonds
        • High wear resistance and very good emergency operating features without additional lubrication
        Areas of application
        • Ideal for self-lubricating applications thanks to the oil depot and solid lubricant MoS2 in the sinter layer
        • Up to 250°C

        Self-lubricating sliding guide elements

        Characteristics
        • Optimum lubrication through graphite
        • Initial lubrication with VGM 160 will reduce wear

        – Continuous abrasion of the solid lubricant

        Areas of application
        • For moderate stroke rates
        • For medium shear forces

Ball guides – precise and smooth running

        Characteristics
        • Minimal wear through axial offset of the balls
        • Smooth running
        • Virtually free of play thanks to optimum preload

        – can become overloaded at high shear forces due to the point contact

        Lubrication with VLS 250

        Areas of application
        • For maximum precision
        • Recirculating ball bushings: unlimited stroke in comparison to ball cages
        • Ball cages: higher load capacity than recirculating ball bushings
